Flutes

Emily KaplanEmily Kaplan is the principle flutist of the Great Lakes Wind Symphony. She holds a bachelor’s degree in flute performance from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. In her time at Mansfield University she was the principle flutist of the Concert Wind Ensemble and the symphony Orchestra. She participated in the pit orchestra for Copland’s “The Tender Land”, Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro”, Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”, and Soundheim’s “The Sound of Music”. She also played for Jenkin’s “The Armed Man- A Mass for Peace.” As winner of the 2013 Concerto Competition, Emily performed “Carnaval de Venise” by Paul Agricole Genin, accompanied by the Mansfield University Symphony Orchestra. She continues to study with Dr. Christine Moulton. She is currently pursuing a masters degree in flute performance.

Sarah KoisSarah K. Kois is the Piccolo/Third Flute of the Great Lakes Wind Symphony. Sarah is a graduate of the Gananda Central School District as well as the Eastman Community Music School in Rochester, NY, where in 2012 she earned an Advanced Diploma in Flute while studying with Jan Angus. Sarah is currently a Junior Music Education Major at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. She studies flute with Dr. Christine Moulton, has been a member of the Mansfield University Concert Wind Ensemble since Fall 2013, and has had the pleasure of performing in major works at Mansfield such as Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. Sarah performed with the Mansfield University Symphony Orchestra as a featured soloist in May 2014 on the Student Solo Competition concert, performing Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto for Piccolo in C Major RV. 443. She is currently serving as the President of the Mansfield University chapter of the Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association.

Sheila HornbergerSheila Hornberger is a native of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where she maintains a small teaching studio, and is founder and director of the Williamsport Flute Choir.  She also performs as a flutist with the Penn Central Wind Band in Lewisburg, PA, and the Lycoming Baroque Chamber Choir and Orchestra in Williamsport, PA.  Ms. Hornberger currently studies flute performance at Mansfield University with Dr. Christine Moulton, and is pursuing applications to graduate school.
